Frisco just greenlit a deal with the Hunt family to go after state grants for big upgrades at Toyota Stadium.
City Council unanimously approved a Chapter 380 economic development agreement that would help pay for a 250-room hotel, a 15,000-square-foot convention center, about 30,000 square feet of shops and restaurants, and a multi-story parking garage at the complex north of Main Street.
Mayor Mark Hill called FC Dallas and the Hunt family “terrific partners,” saying the project is another example of the kind of teamwork that sets Frisco apart and will keep improving the city for years to come.
The stadium and its 17 fields have been a public-private partnership with the city, Frisco ISD, and the Hunt family since 2003. Last year the city extended the FC Dallas lease through 2057 and agreed to support mixed-use improvements. Under this new agreement, Frisco will pass through half of the hotel occupancy taxes (up to $5 million) for 10 years and waive half the construction fees. The Hunt family covers the costs of applying for the state grants.
The hope is more tourism, plus extra parking that should help nearby Rail District businesses.
